Dubai Internet City today hosted members of the Afghanistan Senate as a part of a visit organized by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The Afghan delegation met with Dubai Internet City officials who presented the development of the Dubai Internet City community over the last five years.
Accompanying the delegation on behalf of UNDP was Dennis Sammut, Advisor on Capacity Building – Seal Project, UNDP. “Dubai is a great success story,” said Sammut. “It captures the best elements of an ideal cosmopolitan centre. Afghanistan is a country that is emerging from a long traumatic conflict, and in that regard, a visit to a place such as Dubai will instill a positive outlook.
The visit is part of a larger programme conducted by the UNDP to introduce political leaders from developing countries to cities where globalization has led to positive experiences. Dubai, owing to its economic transformation and open economy, was chosen as a positive role model for globalization.
Jamal Abdul Salam, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City said: “Being chosen as a showcase for globalization by UNDP is a recognition of the diversity we have built in the past 5 years. It inspires us to develop DIC into an even richer and more vibrant ICT Community”.
The senators will participate in a seminar organized by UNDP on globalization, for which a number of senators from other countries like Jordan & Malaysia will also be present.
