Follow-Up Visits by Country Delegations Likely in the Coming Months

Dubai Internet City (DIC), a member of TECOM Investments, and one of the largest ICT clusters in the world, has received substantial business enquiries from companies in the Asia-Pacific region looking to locate their Middle East headquarters in the emirate.

This follows DIC’s successful participation in the recently concluded CommunicAsia 2007, the region’s most comprehensive info-communications event, held in Singapore. More than 2,400 exhibitors from 65 countries and regions were present at the four-day event.

Jamal Abdulsalam, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, said: “Annual participation at the CommunicAsia show enables DIC to assess not only the impact of modern technology on socio-economic policies, but also helps us to identify the needs of East Asian companies.

“We have already received firm interest from East Asian companies looking to set up their Middle East operations. This reflects the DIC’s major strides in offering a business-friendly environment for the global ICT majors, including those from the Far-East.”

Majed Al Suwaidi, Director of Sales, Dubai Internet City said: “DIC’s participation in CommunicAsia is part of its business strategy to increase Asian presence in the ICT cluster. Our negotiations with the region’s industry leaders were fruitful and we are confident a large number of these initial enquiries will result in a concrete outcome. Most of the companies have said they intend to send exploratory delegations to learn first-hand about the free zone’s facilities.”

More than 68,000 trade visitors and industry professionals attended the CommunicAsia 2007 exhibition. Participants came from 100 different countries across Asia Pacific, Europe, the US and the Middle East.
