Hong Kong ICT Exploratory Mission to Middle East Hold Talks with Dubai Internet City
Posted on March 2, 2008

Dubai Internet City welcomed a host of delegation officials representing 15 ICT companies from Hong Kong to discuss ways to foster strategic business ties. The visit came as part of Hong Kong’s mission to explore ICT business ventures in the Middle East.

Led by Dr. Winnie Tang, President of Internet Professional Association (iProA), and Annie Sheung, Project Manager of Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the visit seeks to develop a better understanding of the successfully built ICT cluster business models, both in the Dubai and the Middle East.

The delegation was received by Saeed Ghubash, Regional Sales Manager of Dubai Internet City who discussed potential collaboration and DIC’s leading role in successfully contributing to the fast growth of a knowledge-based economy in Dubai.

Jamal Abdul Salam, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City said: “Hong Kong has long established itself as Asia’s unrivalled information and communications technology (ICT) centre with a regional appeal that is supported by world-class infrastructure and business services.

Parallels can be drawn between the two rapidly expanding cities in relation to the development of ICT business. Like Dubai, Hong Kong is strategically located next to markets that have huge business investment potential namely, Mainland China. We hope that dialogue with the Hong Kong delegation will continue so that we can learn about their business concept while developing and strengthening our business relationship in the near future.”

In addition, discussions also highlighted how non-profit making professional organizations could complement ICT businesses just as Hong Kong’s Internet Professional Association (iProA) serves to bridge the digital divide in society while driving art and science through the application of internet technology.

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council provides a range of services for Hong Kong-based traders including manufacturers and service providers offering promotional business activities for its members. In addition, market intelligence publication reports and catalogues are also compiled and distributed globally enabling business partners the access to market information and data to suit their business interest.

Other Hong Kong delegation company representatives included: The Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) and Hong Kong Information Technology Industry Council (HKITIC), BIMOBI Limited, CB Strategic Investment Limited, Cherrypicks, Communications Association of Hong Kong (CAHK), Dynamic Software Development Limited, eBizAnywhere Technologies Limited,ESRI China (Hong Kong)Limited, Group Sense (International) LimitedGroup Sense Mobile-Tech Limited, Hai Kang Life Corporation Limited,HKC International Holdings Limited, Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre (HKWDC), Infrays, and Mobile Tech Limited.

Dubai Internet City is keen on sharing and learning the different business concepts implemented in key ICT developed Asian countries, and as part of its road show this year will participate in CommunicAsia Exhibition in Singapore as well as a delegation visit to Korea.
