Dubai Internet City Hosts Full Moon Friday Yoga

 More than 150 yoga enthusiasts came together in April for the ‘Full Moon Fridays Yoga Event’ organized by Dubai Internet City. In keeping with its aim to promote a healthy lifestyle, DIC encouraged all UAE residents to participate in the activity that was held at the DIC outdoor amphitheater.
A total of three different types of yoga were presented with one session every hour by key yoga and fitness club experts.

DemoCamp Dubai gears up for 2011 event

 With banks increasingly less inclined to lend financial assistance to SMEs and start-ups and the region’s dire need of a larger base of venture capitalists, DemoCamp Dubai offered a crucial platform for tech entrepreneurs, students, professionals and engineers to demonstrate their innovative concepts and ideas. An annual initiative spearheaded by Dubai Internet City (DIC), DemoCamp Dubai saw a host of submissions for evaluation and applicants were screened by a panel of industry experts, including the organisers and business partners of DIC.
During the event, shortlisted applicants demonstrated their product and highlighted its market opportunity, stage of corporate development, and identified the competitors. Presenters from previous DemoCamps benefitted in terms of exposure and access to investors that may not have been possible otherwise. Modeled on the DEMO conference that is being organised in the US for more than a decade, the DemoCamp Dubai events conducted by DIC have evolved into one of the most successful meeting points for young entrepreneurs.

Emotional Intelligence in Business

 Dubai Internet City conducted a workshop on ‘Emotional Intelligence’ inviting expert Saad Ajil to throw some light on understanding and developing this factor. Today at work, the criteria for success has changed as its not based on how smart we are or training or expertise but how well we handle ourselves. Saad threw light on understanding and developing EI and using specific EI competencies. Saad is a dedicated HR professional with over 20 years of experience working with oil and MNCs in the UAE.
He has published several HR related articles and delivered several HR related training courses. Presently he is the MD of Peoplescope, a Dubai based , training and HR consulting company.

Giving back to the environment

 Dubai Internet City highlighted its commitment to the environment and marked ‘World Environment Day’ by joining the ‘Plant a Tree’ campaign. As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, DIC planted a total of 12 Neem trees near Building 3. Each of the trees has an expected life-span of 25 years.

DIC honours employee commitment

 Dubai Internet City DIC organized an ‘Exceptional Service’ award with an aim to recognize the support, hard work and commitment by employees to the ICT cluster. The last two quarter winners were awarded to 2 categories of employees – internal ICT which included Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone; and external departments which included service providers and other companies that supported the ICT cluster.
The winners of the ‘Service Provider’ categories were Omniya Albarwani - Marketing & Corporate Affairs (Q4, 2010) and Michela Celi – SMBD (Q1, 2011). Asif Iqbal from DOZ and Fatima Rafat from DIC were named winners of the internal ‘Exceptional Service’ award in Q4 of 2010 and Q1 of 2011 respectively.
