DIC celebrates World Environment Day on June 5th by organizing a recycling campaign
DIC celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5th by launching a recycling campaign targeting the collection of materials such as paper, plastics, glass and aluminum cans.
Collection bins placed at the ground levels of buildings were cleared by Union Paper Mills, one of the largest producers of recycled paper in the Middle East.
DIC also called for active participation in its other recycling programmes such as the Computers for Recycle/Re-use Project and the Mobile Phone Recycling Initiative.
DIC’s Computers for Recycle /Re-use Project is being run in collaboration with Dubai Municipality, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation and Microsoft Corp. Old PCs donated to the project are refurbished and distributed among educational, social and charitable institutions. The collection drive contributes to protecting the environment by preventing hazards arising from incorrect disposal.
In the Mobile Phones Recycling initiative, DIC encourages companies to donate their unwanted mobile phones to support National Mobile Recycling Initiative. The collected phones are taken to EnviroFone Facility where their barcodes are scanned, then the plastic, metal and batteries are separated. The separated material is then sent to Singapore or Malaysia Facilities that specialize in e-waste recycling. Unwanted cell phones can be deposited with the security officer stationed at the lobby of each building.
